Hello there, nice flower photo, I’d happily love to give some critique.

Starting from the first impression, in my opinion honestly I don’t think this photo is interesting enough to be an eye-catcher for more than a few seconds. That’s because firstly the colors of both main object and the background are very limited – only yellow, green, and black from the leaf gaps and they are spread all over the image area monotonously. Perhaps the main object was interesting when you found it but once it’s photographed this way it’s not so much exciting to see.

I can see there’s some greens aside the flower buds that stand out clear against the blurry ones and that contributes to the beauty nicely, but I think that’s still not enough, still not so interesting. But I like the sharpness of your capture in the flowerbuds because with all the same colors (and probably with high brightness as it’s day time) it would be hard to make out the shapes if it’s not focused. One can see the almost microscopic green spikes at the bottom of the flower and this is a worthy detail. Yet still the colors are again repeating itself monotonously.

If you can imagine this photo in general, the color summary of the whole photo would be like:
Outermost: light green
Middle: yellow
Innermost: dark green
Do you see what I’m getting at? To me it’s like a lemonade without sugar. This photo could use a few more color variation.

Another thing that makes this less interesting is the ordinary central view point. In this case, I think it’s a boring angle, sorry. And there’s no apparent shadow that might enrich the whole scene, this photo is really flat, the lighting is too ‘global’. It’s a shame because there’s high degree of sharpness/focus on the flower buds that’s already pleasant to look at.

I have no idea about the entire setting so I don’t really know a suggestion to improve this photo shall you decide to capture it again some other time, maybe that’s all the best background setting you could get for this object. But if actually there’s another warm color in the surroundings you might want to pick that or at least get some of the colors to be captured in the background. And how about for the camera to actually get even closer to the flower so it would fit 90% of the whole image area? I think that’s possibly would make a more interesting photo rather than too much monotonous green like this.

So overall in my opinion the artistic value of this photo is not really high but with the degree of focus I’d consider this a little above average, a nice work of which details are quite pleasant to see and likely appealing to those who love flowers & nature.
